Things you might want to consider to aid compliance with the Order include:

• Procedures for contacting the emergency services, who will authorise this and how it will happen
• Guidance for staff on when it is safe to tackle a fire
• The special needs of vulnerable people during emergency procedures
• Safe and suitable places of assembly should a fire break out
• Adequate lighting (emergency lighting if required)
• Suitable fire safety signs
• Keeping escape routes clear of combustibles and obstructions
• Reducing risks from dangerous / flammable substances as far as possible
• Use of fire retardant materials
• Training for anyone you may reasonably expect to help in the event of a fire
• Giving information on fire arrangements, precautions and procedures to any who might need it
• Fire instructions (basic instructions to follow in the case of fire. Templates available from the HSE)
• A management system to ensure that fire safety systems are maintained
• Electrical and heating appliances
• Waste policy
• Smoking
• Risk of arson
