Things you might want to consider to aid compliance with the Order include:
- Procedures for contacting the emergency services, who will authorise this and how it will happen
- Guidance for staff on when it is safe to tackle a fire
- The special needs of vulnerable people during emergency procedures
- Safe and suitable places of assembly should a fire break out
- Adequate lighting (emergency lighting if required)
- Suitable fire safety signs
- Keeping escape routes clear of combustibles and obstructions
- Reducing risks from dangerous / flammable substances as far as possible
- Use of fire retardant materials
- Training for anyone you may reasonably expect to help in the event of a fire
- Giving information on fire arrangements, precautions and procedures to any who might need it
- Fire instructions (basic instructions to follow in the case of fire. Templates available from the HSE)
- A management system to ensure that fire safety systems are maintained
- Electrical and heating appliances
- Waste policy
- Smoking
- Risk of arson
